GIFTS IN WILLS
Once you have taken care of those closest to you, including Operation Flinders in your Will is an investment in the future of youth and the quality outcomes consistently achieved by the program. A bequest in your Will is an opportunity for you to make a lasting gift that will significantly impact the lives of young people.
For many people, a gift in their Will may be the largest gift that they make. Regardless of the size or type, a gift in your Will can help reflect your values and beliefs beyond your natural life.
HOW DO I LEAVE A GIFT IN MY WILL?
You can leave a gift in a number of ways:
GIFTS IN WILLS
Many young people today are experiencing disconnection – from themselves, their communities and the natural world. The young people Operation Flinders work with face additional challenges: trauma, disadvantage, learning disabilities and disengagement from school. Often, they also lack the confidence and support they need to manage their situation.
A gift in your Will supports the opportunities for young people in our community and demonstrates your values to those you care for.
Operation Flinders understands that it can be a difficult conversation for many of us, as you ask your family to confront your own mortality.
Once you have spoken with those closest to you about your passion for the outreach work of Operation Flinders and the legacy you wish to leave, you may consider making a formal record of your intentions. A bequest in your Will is an opportunity for you to make a lasting gift that will significantly impact the lives of young people at risk.
Thank you for thinking of the future of youth in our community as you consider your legacy.
HOW DO I UPDATE MY WILL?
It is recommended that you seek independent legal advice when making or changing your Will to ensure correct legal wording and that your estate is distributed according to your wishes.
- Consult a legal practitioner about leaving a gift in your Will to support youth through Operation Flinders as part of your legacy.
- Discuss with your family, how your plans align with your values so that they can share in your vision and appreciate the legacy you will be leaving.
- Document your gift in Will with your legal practitioner. If engaging a solicitor is not possible, you may like to review the options available with Willed.
- Advise Operation Flinders that you have decided to leave a gift to the Foundation so that we can welcome you and your loved ones into our Moonbeam Society.
If you are creating a new Will, you can include a paragraph in your Will. We have provided below clauses for your consideration:
“I give (insert your bequest here – named asset/whole of your estate/reside of my estate/% of my estate/sum of $...) to Operation Flinders Foundation Inc. of Level 1, 12 Angus Avenue, Edwardstown SA 5039 to be used in its mission to create opportunities for young people facing challenges.”
When a bequest is included (ie. the abovementioned clause is included in your Will), then the following clause should be added into the body of the Will.
"I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer for the time being of Operation Flinders Foundation Inc. shall be a sufficient discharge to my executor or trustees who shall not be responsible to see the application of the gift.”
PLEASE NOTE:
If you have an existing Will, you can add a Codicil to include Operation Flinders as a beneficiary. A Codicil is to be signed and dated with the same formality as a Will and must be stored with the original Will. It is recommended where possible that you use the same pen in preparing the entire Codicil including all signatures.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
THE MOONBEAM SOCIETY
The Operation Flinders Foundation was founded by Pam Murray-White, who had a vision to help young people be the best they can be. ‘Moonbeam’ was Pam’s radio call sign. To honour Pam’s vision and significant legacy, we have adopted this name to convey our respect and maintain a connection to our founder. We have ‘Moonbeam’ campsite, the cairn at ‘Moonbeam’s Vision’ and now 'The Moonbeam Society'.
When you tell us that you have left a gift in your Will to Operation Flinders Foundation, you will be invited to join ‘The Moonbeam Society’ which is a growing community of like-minded people connected through the shared values of supporting youth development. You will be presented with an exclusive, hand-made pin to wear proudly, symbolising your support of the Foundation. You and your family will also receive exclusive invitations to events where we can share with you the impact of our services.
